18-year-old Carson City woman arrested after choking mother during argument regarding cat care
An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 1100 block of S. Nevada Street for domestic battery first after an argument over a cat escalated.
According to the police report, a mother and daughter had been arguing over a cat when they became physical.
Deputies made contact with the pair, and spoke to the mother, who had a “very noticeable mark” on her right collar bone and neck area. She said, “she did this to me,” pointing to the 18-year-old daughter, who was walking into the living room.
Deputies spoke to the daughter, who said she took her cat into her sister’s room to wake her sister up. She said her mother got upset regarding the daughter being gone the last few days, waking her sister up and not taking care of the cat while she was gone.
She said she and her mother began to argue, and her mother began pushing her out of her sister’s room. She said her mother was choking her, so in defense she began choking her mother.
Deputies asked her to tell the story again, and she said her mother was pushing her, and she began slapping her to get her hands away. She said her mother then told her she had to get out and she called 911.
The daughter did not have any physical marks on her, and denied medical attention. She was unable to describe how she was being choked by her mother. Deputies asked her how she felt during the incident, and she said angry. She did not say she wasn’t able to get air, or that she felt scared.
Deputies spoke to the mother who confirmed the daughter had been gone and hadn’t taken care of her cat. She said her daughter became bossy regarding the care of the cat for that day, and she asked the daughter to leave the room several times, but the daughter refused. She said she began “herding” the daughter out of the door of her youngest daughter’s room to avoid any further issues when her daughter became angry and began punching and scratching her.
She said she then pushed her daughter out of the room until she was able to shut it. She told her daughter she needed to leave and pack her belongings, then she called the sheriff’s office.
The daughter was taken into custody without incident.
