Carson City arrests: Man jailed after allegedly punching 74-year-old cab driver
A 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning for felony suspicion of elder abuse with substantial bodily harm after allegedly beating a cab driver, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Jonathan William Martin was taken into custody at 12:04 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a casino for a report of a battery near the valet entrance. A deputy met with the 74-year-old victim who is a cab driver. The suspect fled the foot on area. A deputy located the suspect and detained him in the area of North Division and Ann Street.
The victim advised the suspect and another male were attempting to get a cab ride at the casino. The victim stated he refused to provide a ride to Martin because he was rude, cursing at him and highly intoxicated, according to the arrest report.
The suspect then allegedly exited the cab with his friend, turned to walk away and then returned to the driver’s door of the cab, reaching inside the window, punching the victim twice in the face, causing the victim’s teeth to be knocked out of his mouth.
The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital. Multiple witnesses identified Martin as the suspect in the battery. Since the victim is 74 years of age and lost teeth as a result of the battery, Martin was arrested for elder abuse causing substantial bodily harm. Bail: $40,000.
