Carson City Ride of Silence to honor cyclists who have died on public streets
Muscle Powered, a Carson City non-profit that works to promote safer walking and biking conditions, will lead a Ride of Silence on Wednesday to honor cyclists who have been injured or killed while riding their bicycles on public roadways.
The Ride of Silence is an international ride that is now in its 13th year. The goal is to increase motorist awareness of cyclists while promoting safe and lawful cycling behavior.
In Nevada two rides are scheduled: one in Las Vegas and one in Carson City.
The Carson City ride will begin at Telegraph Square (Curry and Telegraph streets on the westside of Carson City), with riders gathering at 6:30 p.m. and the ride starting at 7 p.m. Names of cyclists who have been injured or killed will be read, followed by a low-speed 8 mile Ride in Silence.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office will have a patrol car that will follow the riders as they make their way through various parts of town.
“We are here and we want to be seen. Put down the mascara and turn OFF the phone. Give us three feet when passing and PLEASE, share the road,” said MusclePowered President Kelly Clark.
