Carson City weather: Gusty winds ahead prompt NWS advisory
A weather system moving into the region Tuesday afternoon will kick up gusts potentially strong enough that it warranted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a Wind Advisory.
For the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton regions, winds will be from the west 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Stronger gusts up to 60 mph are possible in wind prone areas such as Washoe Valley, and foothills around Reno, Carson City, Virginia City and the Surprise Valley. The Wind Advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Travel restrictions for high profile vehicles are likely, including I-580 and US-395. Winds could be strong enough to push your vehicle out of your travel lane.
By Wednesday, the system will move out letting warmer and drier weather move in. High temperatures in the high 70s, low 80s are forecasted for the end of the week with clear skies.
Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away.
