Traffic backed up due to chase, traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists

However, northbound traffic in the valley is still closed by NHP.

Traffic is backed up as of 2:45 p.m. on I-580 near Washoe Valley following a chase and traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists.

A chase began within Carson City jurisdiction involving a motorcyclist who refused to stop and allegedly tried to run deputies off the road, according to dispatch. NHP was called once they entered NHP’s jurisdiction who appear to have taken over the investigation which ended near Bellevue.

As of 2:52 p.m., detectives from Carson City have also been deployed to the incident.

Traffic is backed up at least three miles according to a deputy on scene.

While investigating the incident in Washoe, it was reported that multiple large groups of about 50-80 heavily armed motorcyclists entered Carson City, heading towards the scene.

UPDATE 1:05PM: According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Lt. Abel Ortiz, the man who was believed to be carrying a rifle, was instead carrying a pellet gun and had been shooting squirrels at a park near the elementary school. Lt. Ortiz said the man knew that he had made a mistake and was embarrassed for creating the situation. The lieutenant added that the schools did what they were supposed to and there was no threat.

UPDATE 12:35PM: Here's the latest from the Lyon County School District via Facebook. "The precautionary Lock-In at all three Dayton area schools were lifted as of 12:13 p.m. As a result of the prompt actions of law enforcement, school operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure."

Schools in the Dayton area went on voluntary lockdown late Wednesday morning after a report of someone driving around the Dayton High School campus in a pickup with a rifle in the truck, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said. The voluntary lockdown was a precaution, said Page who contacted Lyon County sheriff's office officials.

CARSON CITY — Carson High School teachers and support staff were surprised this morning at their regularly scheduled 7 a.m. faculty meeting in the library before classes began.
