Carson City arrests: Pair jailed after pursuit, sock with syringe thrown from window

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team arrested two people Saturday on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges including drug possession and destroying evidence following a vehicle pursuit.

Richard Dennis Gomes, 39, and Rumor Kamille Schilling, 24, both of Gardnerville, were taken into custody at 2:26 p.m. in the area of North Nevada and West Adams streets. Gomes was arrested for felony eluding, destruction of evidence, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with expired registration.

Schilling was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance, destroying evidence, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and a contempt of court warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court.

According to the arrest report, SET deputies patrolling the area observed a vehicle traveling westbound through an intersection with expired California license plates. Dispatch confirmed the registration was expired.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle at North Nevada and West Caroline streets with lights and a siren. The station wagon pulled over. As two deputies began to get out of the patrol vehicle, the station wagon sped away. A pursuit followed with flashing lights and sirens.

Approximately 7 other deputies responded to the area with lights and sirens in an attempted to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle continued west to the intersection of West Caroline Street and North Division. The station wagon went through the stop sign at the intersection and continued at a speed of 30 mph in a posted 25 mph zone, the arrest report states.

The station wagon turned east on West Park Street, then went through the stop sign at West Park and Nevada streets. It turned north on North Nevada Street where it pulled over near the intersection of West Adams Street.

During the pursuit deputies observed multiple items being thrown out of the passenger window. Deputies were able to locate the evidence that was thrown out of the window, including a syringe in the roadway near Division and Sophia. Also located was a spoon with burnt residue in the roadway on the corner of Division and Ann. Deputies located a beer can in the roadway, also in the area of Division and Ann streets. A black sock was thrown out on West Park Street, with a used syringe inside of it. All evidence was booked.

Due to the pursuit, deputies initiated a high risk stop, instructing both the driver and passenger to put their hands up and place them out the windows. The driver, Gomes, put his hand down near his waist and was instructed to put his hand back up.

To prevent the driver of the vehicle from fleeing again, the officer then instructed the Gomes to turn off the vehicle. Once the responding deputies arrived they called the two, Gomes and Schilling, out of the vehicle. The two were detained and read their Miranda warning. Gomes, who attempted to resist, responded by saying "you know my name, f*** you," the arrest report states.

Deputies interviewed Schilling, who admitted to throwing the sock out of the window. She told deputies everything happened so fast that she couldn't recall what else was thrown out of the window and by who, the arrest report states.

Both were booked into jail. During booking, a records check confirmed a warrant for Schilling for contempt of court. Her total bail amount listed was $6,600. Gomes bail amount listed, including felony eluding, was $26,254.
