Traffic backed up due to chase, traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists

UPDATE 3:11 p.m.: Dispatch announced the scene is clear.
However, northbound traffic in the valley is still closed by NHP.

Traffic is backed up as of 2:45 p.m. on I-580 near Washoe Valley following a chase and traffic stop involving multiple armed motorcyclists.

A chase began within Carson City jurisdiction involving a motorcyclist who refused to stop and allegedly tried to run deputies off the road, according to dispatch. NHP was called once they entered NHP’s jurisdiction who appear to have taken over the investigation which ended near Bellevue.

As of 2:52 p.m., detectives from Carson City have also been deployed to the incident.

Traffic is backed up at least three miles according to a deputy on scene.

While investigating the incident in Washoe, it was reported that multiple large groups of about 50-80 heavily armed motorcyclists entered Carson City, heading towards the scene.

The weekend is shaping up to be seasonably warm and sunny around Carson City, western Nevada and in the Sierra, with the possibility of gusty winds, rain and snow showers returning late Sunday into early Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Earlier this month, the Carson City Planning Commission voted 4-1 to approve an application by Carson Valley Meats for a meat processing and packaging facility off of Highway 50 E. in an industrial zone.

Slaughterhouses are approved uses for the general industrial zoning area, as laid out in the Carson City Municipal Code, but an appeal has been filed against the decision.

Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host a game watch at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, as the Las Vegas Raiders take on the Denver Broncos in Denver.

Two vacant restaurant spaces could be seeing a revamp and new life, according to Carson City’s NAI Alliance.

The first of the two is the vacant Flavors of India building, which closed down during the pandemic.

On Wednesday Oct. 13, Carson High School’s Theater and Choir departments performed their fall recital in the Bob Boldrick Community Theater in the Carson City Community Center. Choir teacher Andrew Sonnermaker and Theater Teacher Andi Wilkerson lead ensemble groups such as Musical Theater, Choir l/ll, Concert and Chamber Choir.

The first organized baseball games in Nevada dates back to 1869 when Carson City bested Virginia City 81-31.

The Lyon County Manager's Office advises Dayton area residents to expect road closures from Oct. 18-22 on Sheep Camp Road between South End Drive and Jasper Lane. The road will be closed to all throughway traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to subdivision development construction.

The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation announced Wednesday they have awarded $3 million to 19 organizations assisting with the aftermath of the recent wildfires in the Lake Tahoe Basin area.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is sponsoring a fun Chalk Art Contest as part of the Nevada Day festivities on Oct. 30. The contest is open to individuals, families, and businesses. Contestants will create chalk art masterpieces on sidewalk at a central location on East Washington Street based on the theme of “My Favorite Moment in Nevada.”

Curry Street is open to one-way northbound traffic between 5th and Musser. Pedestrian detours will also be in place. Please plan accordingly.

The Brewery Arts Center will be starting a new singer/songwriter series this Saturday night in what was formerly the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater, now simple known as The Maizie. Musicale @TheMaizie will be performed in an intimate setting with local and touring singer and songwriters giving them an opportunity to connect with the audience, interact and discuss the creative process.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence, the crisis shelter in Carson City for victims and families of domestic and sexual violence, will host its annual Light after Dark benefit 10K and 5K walk and run this Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021 at Riverview Park.
