Carson City-based nonprofit Xquisite golf tourney tee's up public safety responders and local businesses
CARSON CITY — On Oct. 4, 2021 Xquisite, a local nonprofit located in Carson City, held its first golf tournament at Toiyabe Golf Club in Washoe Valley. We are a nonprofit that actively responds positively to eminent dangers on behalf of the victims of human trafficking, sexual assault and domestic violence.
A human body is a resalable commodity, multiplying trafficker’s profits exponentially. Trafficking of women and children is the largest globally organized crime today, and Nevada consistently ranks in the top 10 worst states in the nation in quantity and severity for human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual assault.
We have discovered that 89% of the prostituted persons we have worked with have experienced sexual violence as a child, often as early as 3 years old, from a family member or close friend. We believe it is imperative to break the cycle of generational violence, not only for the individual survivors we serve, but for our communities to emerge stronger and healthier as we work together to heal this atrocity one survivor at a time.
We are committed to providing wrap around services to each victim and survivor we serve, through our Diamond Strong Freedom Center, which is dedicated to bring freedom and empowerment for sexually exploited women, youth and survivors of human trafficking, sexual assault and domestic violence to live healthy, flourishing lives.
We are committed to bringing awareness to our community of what human (sex) trafficking looks like here in Northern Nevada within our neighborhood setting and we believe that once you become aware, you must decide how to respond.
We are here to be that resource and tangible help. We have discovered that often sex trafficking and domestic violence co-exist. We will continue to emerge to be that force that runs toward the eminent danger and bring freedom to the women and youth we serve at Xquisite.
We were very honored to have 75 local businesses support this year’s tournament along with 60-plus volunteers, which included the young men from Bishop Minogue’s Miner Men.
Local businesses sponsored 54 of our finest community local law enforcement/first responders for a total of 13 1/2 teams – including Washoe County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Balaam; Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Coverley; Lyon County Sheriff Hunewill; Carson City Fire Department and Carson City Fire Chief Slamon; Carson City Sheriff’s Department; NHP Parole and Probation; State of Nevada Department of Corrections and Deputy Director Wickham, and Warden Russell.
Every dollar raised will be used to help the women and youth we serve to move from a place of victimization to realizing their dreams of not only surviving but thriving. We believe that Together we are Bolder, Braver and Stronger.
