Partnership Douglas County, Tamarack Turnaround disburses more than $80K to fire victims
Beginning Thursday, October 7, 2021, Partnership Douglas County and Tamarack Turnaround, a philanthropic group of community volunteers, are disbursing over $80,000 raised to individuals and families whose homes were destroyed and were displaced as a result of the Tamarack Fire.
During the fire, a group of local residents and members of the business community established Tamarack Turnaround after recognizing a need to connect victims of the fire to the hundreds of individuals wanting to help by donating money.
At the time, Douglas County did not have a vetted process nor a designated nonprofit formalized to offer monetary donation management. Partnership Douglas County, known for incubating new programs in the community, offered to be the nonprofit partner for the group’s fundraising efforts.
“Our goal was to ensure donations were being received and processed safely and provided directly to individuals that whose homes and belongings were completely destroyed,” said Executive Director Taylor Allison.
On Sunday, September 19, 2021, the Tamarack Turnaround hosted a fire relief fundraiser at Carson Valley Country Club. The event included a pasta meal, libations, food trucks, live music and more. In addition to raising money, the event served as an opportunity for the community to heal. Adele Hoppe, co-chair of Tamarack Turnaround, shared “We were honored to have some of the family members that were displaced join us at the event. As we looked out at the crowd, it was evident everyone was enjoying the day.”
Partnership Douglas County and the Tamarack Turnaround cannot thank our generous community enough for rallying together for friends and neighbors in their most vulnerable time of need. Hundreds of donors from business owners and community leaders to private residents contributed to this fire relief effort.
