Douglas, Lyon sheriff's deputies on the lookout this week for seat belt violators
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department in conjunction with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the Spring 2015 Click It or Ticket mobilization period from today, Monday through Friday, May 15. This enforcement detail is partially paid for by a grant from the State of Nevada, Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
National traffic studies have shown that regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle accidents. When worn correctly, seat belts have been proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat occupants by 45 percent in cars, and up to 60 percent in trucks, SUVs and minivans.
Seat belts are the single most effective piece of safety equipment in a vehicle, yet National Highway Traffic Safety Administration studies show that nearly one out of five Americans still fail to wear a seat belt when operating or riding in a motor vehicle.
Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini stated, “Seat belts clearly save lives, but unfortunately too many folks still need a tough reminder, so we are going to be out in force focusing on those who are not buckled up”.
Sheriff Pierini added, “Wearing your seat belt costs you nothing, but not wearing it will. So unless you want to risk a ticket, or worse - your life, please remember to buckle up.”
