South Carson Street Project, Carson City area road report for week of May 11-17

Here is the South Carson Street Project schedule and Carson City area road report for the week of May 11-17, 2020. For information on lane restrictions and street closures related to the South Carson Street Project, visit CarsonProud.com.

South Carson Street Project:
5th Street to 10th Street: SNC will be performing sewer work; one lane in each direction will be open, the cone zone will remain in place around-the-clock.

10th Street to Rhodes: SNC will be performing storm drain work; one lane in each direction will be open, the cone zone will remain in place around-the-clock.

Frontage Road is open to two-way traffic. Intermittent closures to Frontage Rd driveways. SNC will maintain at least two points of access onto Frontage Rd.

Sonoma Street at Frontage Road and Carson Street will be closed all week for concrete work. Use alternative streets to access Frontage Road or Carson Street.

Rhodes to Clearview: SNC will be performing multi-use path work; one lane in each direction, the cone zone will remain in place around-the-clock.

Rhodes will be closed for storm drain work on Monday, May 11 - Wednesday, May 13, with southbound detours to Moses St and northbound detours to 10th St. Construction is subject to weather conditions.

Elsewhere, closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

— Airport Road will be closed only in the northbound direction between Woodside Drive and US Hwy 50, Monday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The southbound direction will remain open.

— Airport Road will be closed in both directions between Woodside Drive and Minonee Lane, Tuesday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. Residential access will be allowed. JAC service will continue, however detours will be in effect.

— Curry Street will be closed periodically between William Street and John Street, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

— John Street will be closed periodically between N. Carson Street and Curry Street, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

— Menlo Drive will be closed at Airport Road, Tuesday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

— Oregon Street may be closed between Roop Street and Wright Way, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

— Phillips Street will be closed between Washington Street and Caroline Street, Thursday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Lane restrictions are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

— 5th Street will have reduced and shifted lanes in both directions between Roop Street and Saliman Road, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

— Clearview Drive will have yield controlled single lane closures between Curry Street and Voltaire Street, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

— Fairview Drive will have single lane closures and lane shifts between S. Carson Street and Roop Street, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

— North Carson Street will have a single lane closure between Fleischmann Way and William Street, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

— Roop Street will have single lane closures and lane shifts between Oregon Street and Little Lane, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

— Roop Street will have single lane closures at 5th Street, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

— Saliman Road will have single lane restrictions in both directions between Depot Drive and Como Street, Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

— William Street will be reduced to a single lane eastbound between Roop Street and Saliman Road, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.

Carson City Fire Department and multiple agencies will host Tuesday the 2nd annual wildfire education and preparedness workshop for the community Tuesday, April 30.
