Carson City deputies make weekend arrests for DUI, battery, resisting and obstructing

24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 9:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive for misdemeanor resisting, obstructing and alternative sentencing violation.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area regarding a possible domestic battery. Dispatch advised a reporting party stated there was screaming and banging inside the residence that was happening between a couple.

A deputy arrived on scene with a female answering the door. Deputies observed a man walk around the corner, who appeared intoxicated and had blood on his mouth. Deputies asked the man why he had blood on his mouth. He refused to answer the question and said he was going to bed.

The officer told the man to come outside the house. The man said "no, f*** that." The officer told the man to come out and speak. The man walked back into the residence. Noting that it was a domestic battery call, the man refusing to follow instructions, and began swearing at the officer, the deputy asked the cover unit to expedite when the suspect began to resist the deputy as the deputy attempted to detain him for questioning.

The suspect continued to resist, didn't comply with commands, and was told he was going to be tasered if he didn't comply. The man continued to resist and was tasered, the arrest report states. The man refused to walk out of the residence and was carried out, where the man then attempted to grab the officer's testicles, telling the deputy that was his intention, according to the arrest report.

Backup units arrived and the man was placed into a patrol car. Dispatch advised the man was on Alternative Sentencing with conditions to not have alcohol and to obey all laws. The deputy advised to dispatch that the man was under the influence of alcohol and that he was being taken to jail for obstructing and resisting.

Deputies spoke with the woman inside who denied any altercation or argument between the man and herself, stating that there was blood on his mouth because he doesn't brush his teeth often enough. Others in the residence also denied any altercation. Bail: $3,989.

In other arrests:
— A 48-year-old Carson City man, Todd Cunningham, was arrested Sunday in the 4600 block of South Carson Street for a felony warrant alleging attempted battery with a deadly weapon. The warrant was issued out of Reno. Bail: $25,000.

— A 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Sunday for gross misdemeanor battery on a protected person and two misdemeanor battery charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatch to 1600 Medical Parkway for a male patient who allegedly battered a nurse and several others. He was being treated at the hospital for drug use and for making suicidal comments. He was being held at the hospital on a legal hold.

Deputies met with a nurse who stated the man punched her in the left arm with a closed fist and then ran out of the room he was being treated in. The nurse had visible injuries to her left arm. She stated she wanted to press charges for battery.

Two security officers stated they were battered during the altercation as well. They were both hit in the chest with a closed fist. One man was kicked in the left shoulder. Both wished to pursue battery charges. The man arrested and taken to jail. Bail: $9,411.

— A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the area of Crown Pointe Drive for suspicion of a second DUI. According to the arrest report a deputy was dispatched for a DUI driver who hit the median and was driving erratic. Two reporting parties called dispatch regarding the man's dangerous driving.

Dispatch advised the male suspect pulled into a Crown Point Drive residence, which was the suspect's residence. Deputies took statements from both reporting parties, the arrest report states.

Deputies knocked on the door of the residence, and asked the man to speak. The man had a difficult time standing on his own, his speech was slurred and deputies could smell alcohol coming from his person. One of the RP's identified the man as the one they saw driving.

The suspect agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on all the tests. He provided a .108 preliminary breath test and was arrested. At jail he agreed to submit to a blood draw for evidentiary testing. Bail: $2,637.

Eric James Stringham was taken into custody at 10:36 p.m. He also faces charges of obstructing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a violation of suspended sentence bench warrant.

According to the arrest report, a traffic stop was made on a vehicle where the license plate light was out. A deputy spoke with the female driver. The passenger, Stringham, gave the deputy false information about his identity several times and wouldn't obey commands by a deputy to keep his hands on the dash. At one point he told the deputy that he wasn't going to tell his real name. He was arrested after briefly resisting.

The driver of the vehicle consented to a search of the vehicle, where a backpack was found. Inside the backpack contained two hypodermic needles, a cap with heroin inside, a cotton ball filled with heroin and a tourniquet. The driver said the backpack was Stringham's. The man was read his Miranda warning and he admitted the backpack was his and also admitted he provided a false name so he would not be arrested on the warrant. Total bail amounted listed: $9,984.

During the investigation officers learned the woman had been drinking. She denied anything happened. She provided a partial preliminary breath test with a .368 result.
