Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Gardnerville patient arrested for battering medical staff

A 24 year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the 700 block of Fleischmann Way for misdemeanor battery, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, law enforcement was dispatched to a medical facility on a report of a staff member who had been battered by a patient.

The charge nurse reported to deputies that a patient transported to the facility by Douglas County Sheriff's Office on suspicion of an earlier domestic battery offense had become uncooperative with staff, refusing treatment, the report said.

The patient then accused a staff member of calling him a vulgar name and attacked staff, the report said, punching the victim in the face and neck.

Additional staff subsequently restrained and detained the patient until Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene. The victim was sent to the emergency room for a medical evaluation and treatment.

Despite the presence of three deputies, the patient became aggressive toward staff again, requiring restraint and medication administration prior to being transported to the Carson City Jail, where he was booked. Bail: $1000.

According to the report, deputies arrived at a residence to serve a bench warrant on the suspect, who met authorities at a second story window and told them that the man they were looking for did not live there.

Deputies, however, had a photograph of the suspect, compared it with the man in the second story window, and confirmed he was indeed the suspect they were serving.

Law enforcement requested the suspect come down and meet them at the door to avoid disruption in the household. He initially agreed, but his wife came out instead stating her husband had run out the back of the residence instead.

Deputies at the rear of the property, however, stated no one had exited the house.

Authorities then called into the residence requesting the suspect show himself and exit. They then entered the residence to search for him. He was found a short time later hiding inside a locked van in the garage underneath a foil sun blind.

Following several commands from officers, the suspect finally exited the van and was detained in handcuffs. He was transported to the Carson City Jail for booking without further incident. Bail: $500.

The subjects stated they had been hitting golf balls at the river, but could not explain why they initially hid from the sheriff on his slow speed patrol in the area.

One of the identified subjects returned from dispatch with a confirmed bench warrant. He was taken into custody and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $215.
