HHS Report: 45,390 Nevadans have enrolled in Health Insurance Marketplace
Nevada enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace under the Affordable Care Act was 45,390 from Oct. 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday.
Nevada's enrollment includes “in line” and other enrollment activity such as people enrolling due to a change in life circumstance reported through Saturday, April 19, 2014.
Nationwide, enrollment surged to eight million at the end of the first enrollment period, said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
HHS also announced Thursday that an additional 104,659 Nevadans enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP through the end of March 2014, compared to enrollment before the Marketplace opened last October. Nevada has decided to expand Medicaid coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
“More than 45,390 Nevadans signed up through the Marketplace, demonstrating brisk demand for quality, affordable coverage,” said Sebelius. “Together we are ensuring that health coverage is more accessible than ever before, which is important for families, for businesses and for Nevada’s health and well being.”
Key findings from Thursday's report include:
— 45,390 Nevadans selected Marketplace plans from October 1, 2013, through March 31, 2014, (including additional Special Enrollment Period activity through April 19th).
— Of the 45,390 Nevadans who selected a plan:
— 33 percent are under age 35;
— 24 percent are between the ages of 18 and 34;
— 53 percent selected a Silver plan, while 24% selected a Bronze plan; and,
— 82 percent selected a plan with financial assistance.
The report measures enrollment as those who selected a plan. In some states, only partial datasets were available.
