It's Your City with Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi
This week's It's Your City is with Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi who explains Nevada Wildfire Awaremess Month and the measures the public can take to prepare homes from wildfire by creating fire adapted communities.
Nevada Wildfire Awareness Month will kickoff with an event this Saturday, May 3, from 10 to 2 p.m. at Mills Park. The event will promote this year’s wildfire awareness message, encouraging residents to better prepare their homes and properties to survive future wildfires.
The event will provide an opportunity to meet local firefighters, visit information booths, meet Smokey Bear and Sparky the fire dog, explore helicopters and fire engines, play games, win prizes and more. A representative from Governor Sandoval’s Office will read the state’s Wildfire Awareness Month Proclamation as part of the kickoff celebrations.
Nevada Wildfire Awareness Month is a collaborative effort by local, state and federal firefighting agencies, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and many others.
