Regional students, STEM professionals to be honored at 'Night of the STEM Stars' Thursday at Governor's Mansion

On Thursday, April 27 the Society of Women Engineers, Sierra Nevada Section will host their ninth annual celebration to recognize Northern Nevada young women excelling in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in high schools, as well as graduating SWE collegiate students from University of Nevada Reno, Truckee Meadows Community College, and Western Nevada College. Community leaders, educators and STEM professionals will be recognized for their outstanding achievements.
This year’s celebration will be held at the historic Nevada Governor’s Mansion in Carson City. During this Night of the STEM Stars, student and professional honorees are treated to a ceremony and recognition by their peers and corporate representatives.
Keynote speaker Dr. Grace Chou, Chief Innovation & Commercialization Officer at the University of Nevada Reno will share her inspirational message. Honorees will be presented with recognition and commendations from Governor Lombardo, Senator Cortez Masto, and Carson City Mayor Bagwell.

SWE-SNS President, Dr. Dee Frewert, says “We’ve come a long way and are so excited to bring this recognition event to the Governor’s Mansion. We are so proud to honor these amazing and inspiring women. Their achievements and accomplishments are remarkable examples for others to reach higher.”
SWE-SNS will recognize 22 high school merit winners, 10 graduating college students in STEM and four professional honorees including Liz Allison, VP Quality at Panasonic, Dean Anne Flesher, TMCC, and posthumously, Wendy L. Alderman. In addition, SWE will also recognize two outstanding educators, Kim Tucker from Eagle Valley Middle School and Cara TIdaro, Carson School District.
