Carson City sheriff's weekend arrests: Man jailed for meth, eluding after vehicle pursuit

A 44-year-old Carson City man faces felony drug and eluding charges after leading officers in a vehicle pursuit Saturday afternoon that went for several blocks, including through a residential neighborhood, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Donald Duane Crabtree was arrested Saturday, 4:51 p.m. in the area of North Lompa Lane and College Parkway. He was found to have methamphetamine in his vehicle. He also faces four counts misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts disobedience of a traffic control device.

According to the arrest report, a deputy with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team attempted to stop a vehicle after observing the driver talking on a cell phone.

Crabtree did not stop and continued after patrol lights and siren were activated. He went west on Nye to North Lompa Lane, accelerated and continued, south on Bryan Circle at 40 to 45 mph in a residential neighborhood with a 25 mph speed limit, the arrest report states. The vehicle then went back to North Lompa and College Parkway, driving through a red traffic light. He then pulled over to the side of the road and put his hands in the air.

He was read his Miranda right and told officers that he thought he had a traffic warrant for his arrest and when he saw the officer, it was “a habit to run,” according to the booking report. A deputy asked if there were any drugs or weapons in the vehicle. Crabtree said he had a small amount of marijuana.

A K9 did an exterior sniff of the where deputies located a spoon and a testable amount of methamphetamine. Officers also found a silver digital scale and several used hypodermic needs and a large blue butane bottle. A criminal history was ran on the man that showed 35 prior arrests for felonies with two felony convictions, 31 misdemeanors, one gross misdemeanor and one prior arrest for eluding. Bail: $27,175.

In other arrests, a 23-year-old Carson City woman, Alisha Kingsley, was booked early Saturday evening in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony and two misdemeanors, possession of paraphernalia and marijuana. Bail: $4,374.

— A 55-year-old Gardnerville woman, Donna Kay Wheeler, was arrested Friday on felony suspicion of domestic battery after allegedly attacking and strangling a victim who was driving, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 7:55 p.m. to Carson Tahoe Hospital on a report of a domestic battery. The suspect was detained at the hospital after the alleged incident on the woman’s daughter, a second female and a male security officer at the hospital.

The victim spoke with the daughter who advised she had received a text message from her mother asking for a ride the hospital. The daughter said here mother claimed to be dying. She said she and her friend picked up her mother at her home. While they were taking her to the hospital the suspect began drinking vodka from a bottle.

When the daughter asked why she was drinking vodka if she wanted to be taken to the hospital, the mother threw the bottle, hitting her in the head as she drove. The suspect then began punching the back of her head, and strangled her from the back seat as she was driving, the arrest report states.

The victim and witness both signed statements of the incident. Hospital security said he observed the victim driving up to the hospital property, swerving and the passenger in the back seat of the vehicle attacking the driver, the report states.

The hospital security guard ducked the woman as she swung at him but received scratches as he attempted to back away from her, according to the arrest report. A sheriff’s sergeant on scene was able to put handcuffs on the woman. Bail: $22,000.

— A 45-year-old Carson City ma was arrested Sunday 4:45 p.m. in the area of North Lompa and Highway 50 East on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant. Bail: $500.

— A 45-year-old Mound House woman was arrested Sunday, 1:32 a.m. in the 3300 block of Highway 50 East on misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, the woman had driven her vehicle into a ditch in front of the Country Store. The officer suspect she was under the influence because she was unsteady on her feet and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. She told the officer she had two glasses of wine. She submitted to standardized field sobriety tests that indicated impairment and blew a .20 on a preliminary breath test. Bail: $1,137.

— A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 9:43 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 and Nichols Drive on misdemeanor suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and failing to stop at a stop sign. According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop because the man had not stopped at a stop sign. During the stop the officer smelled an odor of methamphetamine coming from the vehicle and requested a K9 unit to the location. The dog alerted to the exterior of the vehicle. During a search, deputies found three spoons with substance on the spoons, a digital scale and four hypodermic needles. Bail: $1,224.

— A 23-year-old Minden man was arrested Saturday, 6:10 p.m. in the 300 block of Old Clear Creek on a misdemeanor charge of being in violation of a restraining order. Bail: $1,137.

— A 23-year-old Coleville man was arrested Saturday, 3:22 a.m. in the 3300 block of Woodside Drive on suspicion of disorderly conduct and obstructing. Bail: $654.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:30 p.m. on suspicion of DUI. The man was stopped for speeding, going 58 mph in a 40 mph zone. He appeared to be giddy, was laughing and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. He told deputies that he thought he had “about two drinks,” the arrest report states. He agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He was asked if he would give a breath sample. He refused and said he wanted to take a blood test, the arrest report states. Bail: $1,137.

— A 22-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday, 11 p.m. in the area of Hamilton and Carriage Crest on misdemeanor suspicion of driving under the influence and open container. Bail: $1,329.

— A 52-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:05 p.m. in the 800 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor failure to appear warrant. Bail: $571.

— A 35-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday, 7:54 p.m. in the 3300 block of Highway 50 east on misdemeanor suspicion of probation violation. Bail: $3,000.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 3:47 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street on misdemeanor suspicion of violation of a suspended sentence and petit larceny. The man allegedly attempted to steal a pair of Walmart boots valued at $42.68, walking out of the store with them on without paying. A records check showed the man was on Alternative Sentencing. Bail: $1,352.

— A 61-year-old Gardnerville man, James Cyrus Jordon, was booked into Carson City jail Thursday, 11:30 p.m. on a felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle and two misdemeanor warrants, failure to appear and driving without a valid driver’s license. Bail: $11,430.

NV Energy reports 2,636 customers without power Monday morning in Carson City. The outage was reported at 9:46 a.m. At this time there is not an estimated time of restoration. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5PM: Fire crews will be mopping up the Callahan Fire overnight and into tomorrow. One primary residential structure was lost along with multiple outbuildings. UPDATE 12:55PM: The fire is estimated at approximately 100 acres; approximately 3,000 people have been impacted by evacuations. Rain is falling on the fire scene. Additional Strike Teams totaling 10-15 engines have begun arriving to assist on the fire, according to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which tracks fires in the region.

Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, the Washoe County Alert system sent out an evacuation notice to residents in the Callahan Ranch area stating they should evacuate immediately.

The evacuation point is at South Valleys Library located at 15650A Wedge Pkwy, Reno.

Dayton Elementary students were treated Friday to a helicopter fly-in by the Nevada National Guard as part of the school's Veterans Day program.

A team from Nevada National Guard landed a helicopter on the soccer field after the school's Veterans Day assembly. Dayton Elementary is the only school in Lyon County that is a Purple Star School.

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and is a federal holiday to honor all veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. A number of events are planned in Carson City and surrounding counties.

Charle Abowd, a world renowned, award-winning chef and restaurateur but even more than that a philanthropist and community fixture for decades, died Saturday evening, according to longtime friends.

Abowd, 73, was a pioneer in farm to table dining, along with his wife Karen who co-owned Cafe at Adele's, he was a champion and supporter of music and the arts. He was a man who dedicated himself to lifting up others.

The Morgan Mill High-Water Mark unveiling will be held on Nov. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morgan Mill River Access Area, 5597 Morgan Mill Road. After a relatively mild weekend, another storm system is expected to arrive Monday that will bring gusty winds, mountain snow and some valley rain, according to the National Weather Service.
