Carson City Triad presents Driver Safety with Nevada Highway Patrol
Carson City Nevada Triad presents Driver Safety, a presentation designed to raise awareness about traffic laws, speed and distracted driving at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Friday, Apr. 13, at 11:45 a.m.
Trooper Matt Mclaughlin, Nevada Highway Patrol public information officer, will lead the presentation.
“It is essential to know traffic laws such as the move-over and impeding laws to ensure safety,” Mclaughlin said. “Many drivers neglect the need to move over to the left lane when emergency vehicles are stationary displaying emergency lights.”
Mclaughlin said drivers must be aware that driving too slowly can be dangerous as traffic is being impeded.
“Now more than ever, there are more distractions that exist inside and out of the vehicle and it’s the driver’s responsibility to pay full attention and detail to the road in front of them,” he said.
Mclaughlin said phones are not the only thing distracting drivers today, it can be food, a pet on the driver’s lap and anything else that takes the attention off the road.
For anyone interested in looking at the trooper’s patrol truck or taking a quick picture, it will be available after the presentation.
The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Raffle tickets for a drawing for a gift basket will be handed out at the door.
Additionally, for part two on this topic, the Senior Center will host a CarFit event in the center’s east parking lot, on Saturday, April 21, from 10a.m.-2p.m. Appointments can be made between April 13-20, 2018 by calling the Senior Center at (775) 883-0703.
CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them. At a CarFit event, a team of trained technicians and/or health professionals work with each participant to ensure they "fit" their vehicle properly for maximum comfort and safety.
Carson City Triad provides health and safety related information monthly at the Senior Center. Triad is a collaboration between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department and Senior Center.
For more information, email Courtney Warner, executive director of the Carson City Senior Center, at CWarner@carson.org, or call the Center at (775) 883-0703.
