Carson City woman jailed for DUI drugs, felony battery after vehicle collision

A Carson City woman faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after colliding with a vehicle Saturday afternoon at Ponderosa Drive and and Koontz Lane.

Lisa Spangenthal, age not provided, was booked into Carson City Jail after being arrested at 1:47 p.m. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the incident that involved an Oldsmobile Cutlass and a 2011 Hyundai. The Hyundai had major front end damage on the passenger side.

From the position of the Oldsmobile and the Hyundai, and the damage on both vehicles, the accident may involved the Hyundai having "t-boned" the Oldsmobile, according to the arrest report.

Officers spoke with both drivers. During interviews officers learned the Hyundai was stopped south on Baker Street at the intersection of Koontz Lane. The Hyundai was halfway on Baker and Koontz Lane, blocking part of the intersection, the report states.

The Oldsmobile was eastbound on Koontz Lane and attempted to turn onto northbound Baker Street. The Oldsmobile did not turn because the Hyundai was in the way, the report states. The Oldsmobile drove past the Hyundai and the driver raised her hands in the air. The driver of the Hyundai thought she was getting flipped off, the report states.

Deputies interviewing the Spangenthal believed she was possibly intoxicated because her speech was slow and hard to understand, her eye lids were half closed, and she swayed back and forth, the arrest report states.

A field sobriety test was requested. The woman was asked if she had been drinking and she said she had not. The conversation between the officer and the woman was described in the report as "not very cooperative."

An officer asked the woman what prescription medications she was taking and the woman replied: "I'm on a s*** load of pills." The officer asked the woman to be more specific. The woman advised that she is taking Vicodin, Velum, Topamax and psychiatric medications that she did not know, the arrest report states. She also told the officer that her husband had injected her with methamphetamine "but that was months ago," the report states.

The woman did not perform the field sobriety tests as demonstrated, according to the report. Although she showed no signs of being under the influence of alcohol, she did appear to be under the influence of prescription medication, the report states.

As the woman was being cuffed she resisted by pushing back against a deputy, the arrest report states. She faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon in the collision and DUI drugs. Bail: $31,132.
