Carson City man faces second DUI, domestic battery charges
A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 3300 block of Desatoya Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of second offense DUI and domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the 1200 block of Woodside Drive at around 1:30 p.m. for a report of a domestic battery. The suspect allegedly punched his son twice in the head. A deputy investigating the matter observed red marks on the victim’s left side upper cheek and minor swelling near his left temple area.
At around 2 p.m. the suspect pulled up to the location on a motorcycle. The officer was conducting the investigation when the suspect began yelling at the officer, telling him to tell his children to get home. The deputy told the man to return to his home on Desatoya where the officer would meet him when he finished.
The officer then went to the home, observed the man had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking alcohol before he drove his motorcycle to the Woodside address, 13 minutes prior.
The man denied drinking alcohol before riding his motorcycle. The officer informed the man he would conduct a DUI investigation.
The man told the deputy that he went to the store after leaving Woodside, and bought two miniature bottles of vodka and consumed them before the officer arrived. The officer explained to the man that he did not believe that he accomplished all of what he said in 13 minutes, the arrest report states.
The man was asked if he would submit to field sobriety tests. The man said he was not going to perform the tests and would not answer questions. He did submit to a preliminary breath test with a result of .156. He was taken into custody and to jail. At jail he provided evidentiary tests of .178 and .175. A criminal history showed one prior DUI conviction in February 2012. He was booked for suspicion of DUI (second) and domestic battery. Bail: $5,774.
