Carson City Sheriff's arrest Log: Felony drug, fugitive arrests made on St. Patrick's Day
Two men were arrested Friday, March 17 at 7:31 p.m. in the 2000 block of East William Street on multiple felony offenses, including possession of a controlled substance for sales, harboring a fugitive, providing false identification, and on an active Nevada Parole and Probation warrant, respectively, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
According to the arrest report, 28-year-old Justin Kittle of Sparks and Luis Fuentes-Lopez, 27, of Reno, were taken into custody after sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a Carson City business on East William Street.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found two men by the reported suspicious vehicle. They were questioned by the responding sheriff's deputy, who observed the suspects' behaviors as concerning for a crime in progress, the report said.
A pat-down of both suspects was conducted. Fuentes-Lopez admitted to being armed with a knife. Weapons were found on both suspects during the search, the report said.
As the deputy questioned Fuentes-Lopez, concerns were raised about his identity. A records check performed on information provided by the suspect came back to a female living in Nevada, the report said, and no match was found in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) database despite the suspect insisting he was issued a Nevada ID card.
Fuentes-Lopez later admitted to his correct identity, which records confirmed had an active felony fugitive warrant issued by Nevada Parole and Probation.
Records also showed he had a criminal history with warrant for drug crimes.
A K-9 officer was employed to perform an exterior sniff of the suspect vehicle, and a positive alert of drug odor was observed at both the driver and passenger doors.
An interior search of the vehicle uncovered a bio-hazard container with a syringe loaded with a suspected heroin substance, the report said, as well as one-tenth of a gram of suspected heroin and a spoon containing suspected heroin residue on it. About 50 hypodermic devices were also discovered in the search.
Furthermore, about one gram of heroin was found in a baggie along with a digital scale containing drug residue, q-tips, extra baggies and a spoon. The suspected heroin substances were tested and returned presumptive positive for heroin.
Kittle was questioned if he was aware of Fuentes-Lopez's legal status, and he did not answer.
Both individuals were placed in handcuffs and transported to the Carson City Jail, where they were booked. Bail for Kittle: $10,000. Bail for Fuentes-Lopez: $20,000.
