Additional Lane Closures for I-580 Washoe Valley Improvement Project
Periodic lane and ramp closures will take place on southbound Interstate 580 and Alternate U.S. 395 in southern Washoe Valley as the Nevada Department of Transportation begins construction of a concrete barrier rail. The work is part of a larger ongoing project to enhance Interstate 580 in Washoe Valley.
Periodic lane closures will take place weekdays between 9 am and 3 pm on southbound I-580 and Alternate U.S. 395 through the end of spring. The lane closures are for construction of a 42-inch tall concrete barrier rail between I-580 and Alternate U.S. 395.
The barrier rail will help protect against potential crossover crashes and reduce nighttime headlight glare where the two roads parallel each other near the Eastlake Boulevard off-ramp. The 3,600-foot barrier rail replaces a previous green glare screen fence.
The following periodic lane and ramp closures will also continue through early summer as part of the road improvements, with marked detour routes available:
— Daytime lane and ramp closures on the Alternative U.S. 395/Eastlake Boulevard to southbound I-580 merge lane in the Duck Hill area will take place as the existing merge lane is extended 2,700 feet to reach Carson Street.
— The Bellevue Road Bridge over I-580 remains closed as crews seismically retrofit and enhance the bridge. Both I-580 northbound Bellevue Road ramps remain closed.
Also as part of the project, NDOT last fall repaved approximately seven miles of I-580 through Washoe Valley, with additional paving on remaining stretches of interstate to take place this spring. The approximately $15 million project by Q & D Construction is scheduled to complete in the fall of 2016. Approximately 32,000 vehicles travel I-580 daily in the area.
