Last Response Memorial Fund to hold first meeting for 2018 event in Carson City
The Last Response Memorial Fund, organized locally to help first-responders and their families, will hold its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, March 27 to plan a second annual fundraiser, organizer Don Alexander said.
Last year's inaugural fundraiser, a memorial music festival and benefit concert for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Carl Howell, attracted hundreds.
"This year it will not be for Carl Howell, but something different," Alexander said. "We haven't decided if it will just be a couple of bands or a big music festival again, so were inviting anyone who is interested in helping give us ideas for this year's event."
Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting, he said.
"In fact, we are really encouraging people to attend, because we are looking for ideas and we really want community involvement," Alexander said. "We had a lot of community involvement last year and we want even more this year."
Tuesday's meeting is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. at Hydra's Lair, 1802 N. Carson Street in Carson City.
Alexander said a couple of big-name musicians have expressed interest in coming out to preform. The band Rednex, which performed along with country music star Ty Herndon at last year's festival, have offered to return to Carson City from Europe for the second annual fundraiser.
"The Rednex have offered not only perform, but also be a big part of this," Alexander said.
Volunteers are needed to help run the summertime fundraiser, he said, not just attend planning meetings.
"We really tech-savvy volunteers that can update and maintain our website, Facebook page and other social media accounts," he said. "And we are also looking for sponsors and donations."
The Last Response Memorial Fund, a federally-registered 501(c)3 non-profit, is always seeking donations, too.
"None of our board members or officers have a salary, and any money donated is tax deductible," Alexander said.
Anyone interested in donating can contact Don Alexander at 775-400-0126, or mail a donation addressed to The Last Response Memorial Fund to: 1820 N. Winnie Lane, Carson City, Nevada 89703.
