Carson City area weather: Colder, breezy with rain and snow ahead this week
There will be another round of spring storms for the Carson City and Lake Tahoe areas Monday through Thursday, bringing gusty winds, rain and snow showers along with a return to colder temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
Some showers may develop in the Sierra as a weak system moves into central California. Light snow accumulations could bring a period of slick roads to the eastern Sierra, including Highway 395 from Holbrook Junction south to Mammoth Lakes.
Winds will increase Monday into Tuesday with valleys gusting 35-45 mph and Sierra ridge gusts in the 80-100 mph range. Expect choppy waters on area lakes, travel difficulties for high profile vehicles, and rough air for aviators. Localized areas of blowing dust are possible near and east of Highway 95, according to the weather service.
Precipitation will begin to push into the region by early Tuesday with the greatest coverage late Tuesday into Wednesday with a cold frontal passage. Travel impacts are expected in the Sierra, though these impacts are likely to be minimized during daylight hours due to warmer roads this time of the year. Western Nevada cities could see light snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.

High temperatures will be about 10 degrees below normal Tuesday through Thursday with overnight lows Wednesday through Friday mornings dropping below freezing in even the warmest valley locations.
The weather service advises that it may be necessary to protect any early season sensitive vegetation.

For the Carson City region Monday, there will be a slight chance of snow before 8 a.m., then a slight chance of rain and snow between 8 and 10 a.m., then a chance of rain after 10 a.m. Snow level rising to 6,000 feet in the afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny with highs in the low 50s with breezy conditions, and gusts as high as 35 mph.
By Monday night there's around a 20 percent chance of rain before 11 p.m. Snow level 6,000 feet lowering to 4,800 feet after midnight. It will be breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
For Tuesday, There's a chance of snow late in the morning into the early afternoon and then a chance of rain for the latter part of the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Snow likely Tuesday night. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
For Wednesday: Snow likely, mainly after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. on Wednesday night, a slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.
