Carson City Sheriff's Office announces new non-emergency number: 887-COPS
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has acquired a new permanent single law enforcement non-emergency telephone number to contact the city-wide dispatch center.
The new number is 887-COPS (887-2677). This telephone number will eventually replace most of the older telephone lines that are currently in use and will eventually result in a cost savings of $50 per month, per telephone line still in use, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The transitional period to remove some lines will likely begin at the end of the 2016 calendar year, after our community partners become familiar and comfortable with the new contact method. Until that time, all of the older numbers will remain active.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office understands that continuously adding lines to the department’s business functions creates an endless hole of tax dollars. It is estimated that the eventual transition will save thousands of dollars per year.
This step is designed to reduce those costs through automation and create a single easy to remember method of discussing non-emergency law enforcement information with the communications center operators. o be certain, when in question, emergency 911 dispatchers will always assist any caller, even non-emergency, if the circumstance warrants.
