Carson City area weather: First day of Spring likely to bring valley rain, Sierra snow
While many in Western Nevada will be celebrating the first day of Spring on Wednesday after having experienced a sometimes wild, wet and stormy winter, Mother Nature appears to have her own agenda ahead with valley rain and Sierra snow in the forecast beginning late Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Clouds will increase after Monday as the next weather system arrives in the Sierra and western Nevada. By midweek, the chance for valley rain and mountain snow increases, with the potential for unsettled conditions possible into next weekend, forecasters say.
Monday is the preferred day of travel if you're headed over the Sierra or pretty much anywhere in the Silver State, with highs in mid-60s in the valleys and 50s for the Sierra valleys.
Tuesday night into Thursday is expected to bring rain for the lower valleys with snow levels 6,000 to 6,500 feet. A foot of snow is possible above 7,500 feet, with 1 to 3 inches possible between 6,000 to 7,500 feet.
Friday through Saturday may bring a chance for snow in the Sierra and a rain and snow mix in western Nevada. Timing will be more certain as we get closer to the weekend.
