Carson City firefighters stop brushfire in field at Stewart Indian School
UPDATE: Traffic was allowed to proceed off of Center Street near the Stewart Indian School, the site of a brush fire adjacent to the old football field. Firefighters have doused the flames and begun mop up operation. The fire burned approximately 2 acres, said Carson City Fire Chief Bob Schreihans.
"We are trying to determine the cause of it," he said.
While structures were threatened at one point, firefighters were able to halt the spread. No structures were damaged. The location straddles Carson City and state property. The State Fire Marshal has arrived and is also investigating.
The cause of the fire has not been determined though dispatch relayed a message that someone was seen leaving the area at around the time the fire started.

Carson City firefighters responded at around 2:40 this afternoon for a brush fire reported in South Carson City on the grounds of the Stewart Indian School by the old football field.
At this time, it appears firefighters have a handle on the blaze, which is still smoldering and putting up smoke.
Firefighters who first arrived on the scene reported that structures were threatened. Traffic is being halted at Clear Creek to allow for fire trucks to come in.
