Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed on suspicion of DUI, hit and run
A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Friday for suspicion of DUI and hit and run after a crash in the area of Highway 50 and Lompa Lane.
According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the crash at 1:39 a.m. A reporting witness said he was the driver of a van that was hit by a green Jeep, which left westbound on Highway 50. Deputies learned the Jeep was on Highway 50 west of Brown in a ditch and made contact with the driver. The vehicle had extensive damage and there was airbag deployment.
The man said he was not injured and was removed from the vehicle. He was checked by fire department personnel and declined treatment, the arrest report states.
The driver told deputies he had a few shots and other drinks at a bar before driving. He said while driving home, the car did a “sudden stop” and continued until it stopped on the side of the road.
The officer asked the man why he didn’t stop at the accident. The driver replied that the car continued to drive. He said when the car stopped and wouldn’t drive anymore he called his insurance company to tell them he was in an accident, the arrest report states.
The driver showed signs of impairment and refused to take standardized field sobriety tests, according to the arrest report. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .177. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and hit and run, both misdemeanors. At jail he did not consent to evidentiary testing. A judge was called and a search warrant was granted for a blood draw. Bail: $1,774.
— A 48-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 5:25 p.m. in the area of William and Oxoby Loop on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a two-vehicle crash in which the driver of a Chevy Tahoe was rear ended by another vehicle.
A deputy spoke with the driver of the Tahoe in the back of an ambulance where he was being treated. The man had an odor of alcohol on his breath. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking alcohol. The man said he had not but then admitted to having one beer. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed impairment. He submitted a preliminary breath sample of .130 and was taken into custody, according to the arrest report.
At jail he agreed to evidentiary breath tests and gave two samples with results of .116 and .115. Bail: $1,137.
— A 32-Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 5:24 p.m. in the area of Russell at Northridge on a misdemeanor warrant issued Dec. 8, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. According to the arrest report, an officer stopped a bicycle rider who went through a stop sign at Long and Russell streets, nearly causing an accident. Dispatch confirmed the man had a warrant for contempt of court. Bail: $500.
