Winter weather returns to Carson City and the Sierra
Winter weather has returned to the region with snow falling in Carson City and in the Sierra. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 10 Wednesday night for South Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Incline Village. A Wind Advisory is in effect for Carson City and much of Western Nevada.
Snow showers will continue through tonight for Lake Tahoe with brief periods of moderate to heavy snow. Slick driving conditions are being reported on Spooner Summit, with a single vehicle rollover reported at about 8:15 a.m. that resulted with minor injuries involving two occupants. Carson City Sheriff's patrol officers responded and report near white-out conditions. Other spinouts on Spooner are being reported.
For Carson City, expect snow showers, mainly before 10 a.m. and windy conditions, with a southwest wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible, the National Weather Service reports.
At the lake, snow accumulation of 3 to 6 inches with locally up to 8 inches west of Highway 89 and 1 to 4 inches East of Highway 89 are expect, except locally higher amounts near Mount Rose, according to the weather service.
Expect slick driving conditions throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin today.
Snow is in the forecast for the Sierra through at least Friday.
