Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for suspicion of threatening deputy with knife

A 27-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon on an officer and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Ana Castro-Mendez of Carson City, was also arrested for suspicion of obstructing and resisting arrest and suspicion of domestic battery, both misdemeanor offenses.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 5:22 p.m. to the area of North Roop and Beverly Drive for a report of a domestic battery.

Carson City dispatch announced they were landline with a female who called because she said she had punched her mother and that her mother had left. The caller, who identified herself, said she would be waiting for deputies to arrive.

Upon arrival deputies approached the front door of the residence and were confronted with a female, Ana Castro, standing in the doorway of the home. She held a large knife with a black handle in her right hand outward toward a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy, the arrest report states.

The front door of the home was located on a wood deck and the deputy was standing approximately five feet from the woman with nowhere to retreat due to a wood rail behind him, the report states. Another deputy, who was afraid for the safety of the deputy, drew his firearm and ordered the woman to drop the knife, giving numerous verbal commands to drop the knife. The woman remained non-compliant with the instructions and said "no," the arrest report states.

After a few additional commands she dropped the knife. Deputies attempted to detain the woman, who then pulled away and began resisting. Officers were able to place handcuffs on her and she was taken into custody. The knife the woman held was collected into evidence.

Officers made contact with the woman's mother who said her daughter punched her in the right bicep while driving her home. She declined to let the officer see if there was bruising or redness. Bail: $23,549.

In other arrests:
— A 40-year-old woman was arrested early Thursday for a misdemeanor outside agency warrant (Fallon Municipal Court), driving on a suspended registration and driving with an expired driver's license. Bail: $1,309.

— A 35-year-old man who is in custody at Carson City jail was advised of an active warrant issued March 1 for violation of bail conditions. Bail: $3,000.

All information for the crime log (unless otherwise noted) comes from the arrest reports supplied by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and is considered by law to be public information. All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The policy of Carson Now is to name anyone who is arrested for a felony offense.
