Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Domestic battery leads to felony arrest

A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested for felony domestic battery with strangulation Thursday at 10:56 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, the deputy was doing a follow up investigation regarding a separate case when he heard a woman scream, “help me, he’s trying to kill me.” The woman, half-clothed, was allegedly being followed by Frank Crawford. With blood on her face, the woman told the deputy that Mr. Crawford had strangled her during the assault. He was taken into custody on suspicion of felony domestic battery. Bail: $15,000.

Other arrests: A 29-year-old transient was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and other charges Friday at 12:18 p.m. near Gordonia and Airport.

According to the arrest report, Bryan Gaudette was a passenger in a vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign. After conducting a traffic stop and questioning the occupants, it was discovered that Mr. Gaudette had failed to register his new address. Deputies conducted a free-air sniff with a K-9 and after alerting to the vehicle, a plastic bag with methanphetamine was discovered. In addition to the misdemeanor failing to register and felony drug charge, Mr. Gaudette was not wearing his seatbelt. Bail: $2,675.

— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested for violation of suspended sentence and contempt of court, both misdemeanors, early Saturday morning at 12:45 a.m. near Interstate 580 and College Parkway, a sheriff’s deputy said. According to the arrest report, the sheriff’s office received a call of a suspicious person near a closed business, but the suspect caught a taxi before deputies arrived. The man was taken into custody after to taxi was located and a warrants search was performed. Bail: $4,000.

— A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested for misdemeanor contempt of court Friday at 5:10 p.m. in the 400 block of North Carson Street after a sheriff’s deputy recognized the suspect for having an outstanding warrant. Bail: $3,000.

— A 32-year-old Reno man was arrested for misdemeanor contempt of court Friday night at 10:41 p.m. near Proctor and Plaza streets after the car he was riding in was pulled over for driving without it’s headlights on. Bail: $1,000.

— A 50-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence Thursday at 10:56 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Carson Street after deputies questioned the woman regarding a suspected battery and ran her name for warrants. Bail: $1,000.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man, already in custody, was arrested for misdemeanor contempt of court Thursday at 5:00 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street. Bail: $528.

— A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for misdemeanor contempt of court Friday at 8:26 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street after sheriff’s deputies stopped and questioned her for being in an establishment that requires an age of 21 or over. The outstanding warrant was located after running her name through dispatch. Bail: $500.

— A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested for misdemeanor ex-felon/convicted person failing to register Friday at 1:12 p.m. in the 3400 block of Highway 50 East, a sheriff’s deputy said. Bail: $150.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a credit card skimmer device discovered Thursday at an East Carson City business.

UPDATE 9:38PM: The fire on East Long Street was on the back patio of a two-story four-plex, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. Damage was contained to the exterior patio and siding. There were no injuries. Three occupants were displaced.

When firefighters arrived, a neighbor and Carson City Sheriff's deputies had used garden hoses and fire extinguishers to knock much of it out, said Pedrini. The cause is under investigation.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Mountain Area Preservation reached a settlement agreement this week over a lawsuit brought by MAP against affordable housing policies approved by the TRPA Governing Board in December 2023. The litigation sought to block new land use policies in the highly protected Lake Tahoe Region that combined incentives for water quality, transportation, and workforce housing improvements, according to TRPA.

St. Mary's Art Center, a nonprofit organization located in the former 1876 St. Mary Louise Hospital in historic Virginia City, hosts local published author, Martin A. David, in a creative writing workshop, “You Can Write”. The five-class series occurs every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon beginning July 11 and ending August 8.
