Carson City man jailed after deputies recover stolen handgun
An 18-year-old Carson City man arrested Thursday faces multiple charges including felony possession of a stolen firearm and grand larceny, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Christopher Arlin Molett, was taken into custody at 12:14 p.m. in the 800 block of East William Street. He also faces a gross misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm and the following misdemeanors: Possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana under the age of 21, minor consuming and possession of alcohol, obstructing and resisting and a suspended sentence violation.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched to the 1200 block of South Carson Street in reference to a report of a stolen .40 caliber handgun that happened in the 3400 block of Carson Street.
While making his way to speak with the victim, the deputy observed a male on Fifth and Roop who, later it was learned, matched the description of the suspect.
The deputy met with the victim who stated his Smith and Wesson handgun was stolen and stated he had bought the gun last year from Sportsman’s Warehouse. The victim stated he had gone to a casino earlier that morning and said when he returned to the residence at 8 a.m. he noticed the gun was missing, the arrest report states.
The victim said the suspect, Molett, was in the house when he had left for the casino and was gone when he returned. The victim stated Molett was known to take property, use drugs, carried knives on him and carries a gun in his waistband, according to the arrest report.
The victim gave a description that matched the description the deputy made earlier of the subject at Fifth and Roop.
A deputy located the suspect in front of the Carson City Community Center at Roop and William streets. After several verbal commands the suspect put up his hands. When the deputy attempted to search the man, he resisted and would not let two officers gain control of his arms, the arrest report states. He was given several verbal commands to stop resisting and after not following the commands, was tasered.
During the search, the arresting deputy located a large knife in his waistband, a smaller knife hanging as a necklace, and a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun in the front of his waistband. The serial numbers on the gun matched those of the stolen gun, the arrest report states.
Deputies also located marijuana in his right sweatshirt pocket. Inside a back pack deputies located two more large knives, marijuana pipes with residue, a meth pipe with residue and a bottle of alcohol. Deputies ran information through dispatch on the suspect and learned he was on Alternative sentencing with a “no alcohol” clause. Bail: $56,028.
