Carson City students, educators open first day of Nevada legislative session
To begin, the Carson High School NJROTC honor guard presented the colors, prior to the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the National Anthem, sung by Mark Twain Elementary Music Educator Christina Bourne. The Carson High School Concert Choir, directed by Music Educator and Choir Director Andrew Sonnemaker, then performed "Home Means Nevada" and "Bright Morning Stars," a traditional 19th century American Spiritual arranged by Alice Parker.

The reverent display of patriotism and unity set an optimistic tone and a sense of pride in the hearts of all those in attendance.
The experience also provided the students and teachers with a greater appreciation for the role of government in their community and the importance of being informed citizens.
The school district plans to continue providing opportunities for students and educators to share their talents, participate in civic events and be engaged in the legislative process.
