Carson City Treasurer Robertson intends to retain position, announces run
Carson City Treasurer Gayle Robertson, citing accomplishments and anticipating more, announced this weekend she will run to retain the city government office she holds.
Robertson, appointed treasurer in April, 2015, by the City’s Board of Supervisor, this election year is seeking a two-year term starting in January, 2017. The City governing board appointed her to the office over two others after Al Kramer left as Treasurer to assume a post in state government.
“I would like to announce that I am seeking election so that I retain the position and can continue working on the advances made since I took office” she said.
Appointees to elective offices, if they want to retain them, by law must seek election to their posts in the next primary and general election.
A certified public accountant with more than three decades of background in her field, Robertson has high level experience in accounting, taxation, and at one time served on the Nevada State Board of Equalization.
She is a graduate of the University of California at Davis with a Bachelors degree in Economics and did a year of graduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. She and Bruce, her husband of 39 years, have two sons who were raised in Carson City.
“I feel that my accomplishments will lead to more advances under my stewardship,” the treasurer said, looking forward with excitement to a future that builds on her improvements since taking office.
Among her accomplishments to date, she explained, are:
— Changing the format of tax bills sent to all Carson City property owners to include additional information regarding penalties, how to pay and telephone numbers to call with questions.
— Editing Carson City’s government investment policy. Changes included correcting references to Nevada Revised Statutes, adding a description of investments allowed when using outside managers, and changing the performance evaluation section to allow the City's investment advisors to use an index reflective of the actual securities in the City’s portfolio rather than a generic index.
— Designing a report that is sent to the Board of Supervisors on a quarterly basis to show activity and results in the City's investment accounts.
— Helping in the drafting of a new Carson City ordinance regarding the Downtown Neighborhood Improvement District because the Treasurer is responsible for billing and collecting additional maintenance costs resulting from the district and project.
