Pedestrian identified, suspect vehicle at large after Carson City hit and run

UPDATE 4:40PM: The name of the victim who died Friday morning in a pedestrian hit and run incident has been identified as John Boggs of Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Boggs, 46, was married and had a son in high school. Boggs, who went by "Randy" was the owner of Randy Boggs Construction and was a general contractor, his wife told Carson Now.

His wife, who didn't want to be identified at this time, said the family is hoping the person who hit and killed her husband will turn himself into authorities.

"Hopefully they catch the guy who did this," she said. Boggs' also added that she and her family find the comments made on Facebook by Carson City residents extremely upsetting to the family. She said her husband made a mistake and was crossing the street "where he shouldn't have been crossing the street," she said.

"People don't know my husband and are saying some very terrible things," she said.

UPDATE: 12:05PM: Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol has provided an update on Friday morning's fatal hit and run in Carson City where a 46-year-old man died and the suspect remains at large.

This morning at approximately 6:33 am, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a crash in Carson City on E. William Street near Mills Park involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle. When troopers arrived on scene, along with deputies from Carson City Sheriff’s Office and other first responders, they learned a 46-year-old male had been struck by a vehicle and the driver failed to stop to render any aid and fled the scene.

A witness to the accident who was driving east on the four-lane roadway described the errant vehicle as an older model gray or silver colored Toyota 4-Runner SUV with a lifted suspension kit, black wheels and tinted windows. The witness told troopers he applied the brakes when he saw the pedestrian attempting to cross the eastbound lanes from the north side of the highway. He further stated the SUV, that was also traveling east, struck the pedestrian in the right lane. The pedestrian initially ended up on the hood of the Toyota before rolling or falling off the vehicle approximately 40 yards east of the area of impact. The driver of the Toyota did not stop and fled the area while the witness remained at the scene until emergency personnel arrived a few minutes later.

We are asking the public for assistance in locating the driver and vehicle of this tragedy. If you are the driver who was involved, please come forward and speak to the investigators about this case.

Trooper Kris Satterwhite of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team, or MAIT, is the lead investigator and can be contacted at (775) 689-4682 or at ksatterwhite@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-130207312. Any information, regardless of how insignificant it may appear, will be helpful in solving this tragic event.
