Carson City weekend arrest log: Man admits to stealing equipment from former employer

A 56-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday after admitting to breaking into the maintenance yard of his former employer to steal material goods to use on his own home, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Bob Allen Wooldridge was taken into custody just after midnight Sunday and booked on a felony charge of commercial burglary. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to Southwest Gas at 400 Eagle Station Lane for a burglary in progress. The reporting witness, who was watching via live video surveillance, told dispatch they saw a man with a flashlight in the secured gated area going through the company bins.

Deputies arrived and the employee opened the secured area, which was attached to the Southwest Gas facility. The secured area was enclosed by a wall, approximately six feet, and had multiple buildings inside the area. The employee directed deputies to the yard where he saw the man hide in between some black pipes, the arrest report states.

A search of the area began and a deputy found a black duffel bag with metal items inside. During the search officers announced they were with the sheriff’s office and instructed the man to come out with his hands in plain view.

After approximately five minutes a deputy said she saw someone in the sage brush near a blue bin. The officers instructed the man, identified as Wooldridge, to show his hands. He came out. was handcuffed and read his Miranda rights. Wooldridge said he understood his rights and wished to speak.

Deputies asked why he was in the locked area of Southwest Gas. The man replied he was a former employee at Southwest Gas and said he broke in to steal some parts so he could use them to build items at his home. He admitted the duffel bag belonged to him and said the parts in the bag were items he was trying to take, the arrest report states. He was also carrying a flashlight.

The reporting witness completed a written statement that said that at approximately 11:30 p.m., he saw the security screen and then saw Wooldridge going through the recycle bin in the secured area. The witness called 911 and directed deputies to the area. Inside the duffel bag were two gas regulators, a gas meter motor, miscellaneous pipe fittings, metal pipes, screws and bolts. Bail: $20,000.

Other deputies assisted bringing the man to his feet. During that time he was screaming, spitting and being uncooperative. As he was being escorted down the stairwell the man let his body go limp and he refused to stand. He told the officer “I’m going to f*** you up,” and then whipped his head and head-butted the deputy, the arrest report states. The officer conducted a traffic stop with their overhead flashing lights but the vehicle would not stop for approximately 2 blocks.
