Carson City man with warrants gives deputy bogus name, drugs found in van

A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Friday morning near the 900 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor warrants, a felony drug offense and providing false information to avoid prosecution, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Jon Michael Gargett was booked at 3:27 a.m., for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, felony provideng false information to avoid prosecution and the misdemeanor offenses of possession of paraphernalia, two counts of violation of bail conditions, and violation of pre-trial supervision.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy approached a parked van in a casino parking lot with a man in the front passenger seat sleeping, the arrest report states.

According to the arrest report, the man, who’s name is Jon Michael Gargett, stated he did not have his wallet ND identified himself as “Sammy.” He provided the deputy with his date of birth and Social Security number. A records check was conducted on “Sammy” and two other passengers in the rear of the van.

The records check, which was completed using the Social Security number the suspect provided, returned with three active and confirmed warrants out of Carson City. The deputy stated that he approached “Sammy” and addressed him as Jon. He looked up and responded, “Yes?” After a brief pause he dropped his head and stated “F*ck.”

According to the arrest report, Gargett apologized for providing false information. Located in Gargett’s rear pant pocket was a wallet and California identification card confirming Gargett’s identity.

A K9 deputy alerted during a sniff test and deputies located a crystalline substance in a white metal container located on the front passenger floorboard where Gargett had been sleeping. Under the seat was a scale and a clear plastic baggie with trace amounts of crystalline substance. Two others in the vehicle were cited for drug paraphernalia. Total bail: $22,637.

In other bookings:
— A 48-year-old Minden man was arrested Friday, 9:48 p.m., near the intersection of Highway 50 East And Fairview for two counts suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a prescription drug without prescription, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, suspended driver’s license, improper lane change and not wearing a seatbelt.

A Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the driver not wearing his seatbelt and made an abrupt lane change only signaling long enough for the signal to flash once. There were vehicles in-front-of and behind the suspect, the arrest report states.

Don Nelson Richey Jr. provided his driver’s license and after conducting a license check the deputy found Richey’s license was suspended and had previously been suspended 25 times, according to the arrest report.

Ivo, a drug detection canine deputy, conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle and Ivo showed fringe indication and behavior change at the driver’s door and then gave a final response at the passenger door, the report states.

The arrest report states that during a vehicle search, a piece of aluminum foil with a small amount of suspected heroin on the surface, a glass pipe with suspected methamphetamine inside, and several other pieces of foil with black tracks were located in the center console, the arrest report states.

Furthermore, a pill bottle was located in the rear seat area. The bottle contained the pills corresponding to the prescription label, but there was also an orange tablet in the bottle with the ID markings rubbed off. The pill was not immediately identifiable, the report states. Total bail was set at $9,433.

— A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 11:19 p.m., in the 800 block of Sean Drive for misdemeanor violation of a restraining order and disorderly conduct.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the Sean Drive location and observed the suspect standing in front of the reported address, facing it, and shouting at it. The deputy stated he clearly heard the suspect shout “are there any f**king n*****s over there,” the arrest report states.

Dispatch confirmed the restraining order was still in affect, so the suspect was arrested for the violation. The reporting party pressed charges for disorderly conduct. The suspect provided a preliminary breath test with a result of 0.267 percent BAC. Total bail: $3,379.

— A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 7:20 p.m., in the 1800 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence.

A Carson City Sheriff’s Office had observed a man stumble and then fall on North Carson Street. Upon contact the deputy could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about his person as he spoke. The man was unsteady on his feet and slurred his words, the arrest report states.

A records check returned that he was on Alternative Sentencing with a "no alcohol" clause. The suspect provided a preliminary breath test that returned a result of 0.245 percent BAC. According to the arrest report, an officer with Alternative Sentencing placed a hold on the man for violation of suspended sentence and was taken into custody. Bail: $1,000 cash.

— A 27-year-old Mound House man was arrested Friday, 2:02 p.m., near the intersection of Retail Court and College Parkway for failure to appear on a misdemeanor warrant out of Esmeralda County.

A Carson City Sherrif’s Office deputy made a routine traffic stop on a vehicle that was paced at 75 to 78 mph in a 65 mph zone. A records check returned with an active Nevada Highway Patrol warrant with a $495 cash only bail.

With outside temperatures often in the 90s and above, internal car temperatures can reach anywhere from 114 degrees after 10 minutes, to 140 degrees after an hour. Cracking a window often does nothing at all as rolling down the windows has been shown to have little effect on the temperature inside a car, according to the Humane Society of the U.S.

Today I started pruning out the water sprouts in my four crabapple trees. Some people might call these “suckers,” but suckers grow up from the bottom of the trunk and water sprouts grow in the upper parts of the tree. Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Saturday night to a brush fire in the area of Lepire Drive in East Carson City.
