Carson City investigators arrest 19-year-old as accessory to Monday homicide
A 19-year-old Carson City man has been charged with accessory to murder and robbery in the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man early Monday during a drug deal, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong late Thursday.
Jacob Huttman is the fourth person to be arrested for his involvement with the fatal shooting of Grant Watkins.
Late Tuesday, Reed Skenandore, 21, was taken into custody and charged with first degree murder. Two brothers, Jesus Garcia-Manriquez, 18, and Allen Garcia-Manriquez, 19, were arrested Monday by Carson City SWAT at an apartment complex at Fifth and Harbin streets. They were each charged as being principal accessories in the murder.
Carson City sheriff’s detectives and Special Enforcement Team officers executed a search warrant Thursday on Castle Way in North Carson City, said Furlong.
Several persons of interest were interviewed as a result of the search. At the scene, Huttman, was taken into custody on the warrant charges of accessory to murder, a Category C felony, accessory to robbery, a category C felony, and conspiracy to commit robbery, a category B felony.
Also taken into custody was Johathan Skenandore, 18, on an unrelated warrant out of the First Judicial District Court Juvenile Division.
Carson City detectives say Reed Skenandore was the one who pulled the trigger that killed Grant Watkins during a drug transaction involving three ounces of marijuana. The shooting happened early Monday. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office received reports at 12:39 a.m. of multiple shots fired in the area of Windridge Drive and Spooner Drive near Blackwell's Pond Park in the Northridge subdivision area.
As units arrived at the scene of the shooting and began looking for evidence, authorities at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Emergency Room reported Watkins had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was in critical condition and taken to Renown Medical Center by Care Flight where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m.
The investigation continues to be very active with additional warrants anticipated, said Furlong.
The Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate this matter. Anyone with any information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 887-2500.
