Carson City weekend arrests: Threats, warrants, man pulls down pants and flips off security camera

Here are the latest arrests from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office from Friday through early Sunday morning. A 27-year-old Carson City man, Bradley Paul Steelmon, was arrested Friday, 2:20 p.m. in the area of 20 College Parkway on a felony warrant, insurance fraud, issued June 9, 2014 out of Tahoe Township Court. He also had three misdemeanor warrants alleging: reporting a false crime, and failure to appear warrants out of Lyon County and Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $12,039.

— A 34-year-old Carson City man, Raymond F. Carpenter, was arrested Friday, 11:40 a.m. in the 1800 block of Van Epps on a felony warrant alleging coercion, issued Jan. 9, 2015 out of East Fork Township. He also faces a domestic battery warrant and misdemeanor charges of allegedly making threats and driving on a revoked license. The man allegedly left a message on a cell phone saying he had a gun and threatened to break down a door to the residence. Bail: $14,277.

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 3:07 p.m. in the area of Como and South Carson Meadows on suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and misdemeanor charges of hit and run of an occupied vehicle, eluding and failure to obey a police officer, obstructing an officer, driving on a suspended license, driving on a revoked or suspended registration, driving without proof of insurance, and three failure to appear traffic warrants.

According to the arrest report, a juvenile probation officer advised to dispatch that at around 3 p.m. that he had been involved in an accident on South Carson Meadows.
An officer arrived and observed an unlicensed white 1998 Dodge four door sedan driving away from the accident scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned south onto Ruth Street. The officer activated his patrol lights and sirens, attempting to stop the vehicle, which continued and didn’t stop.

At around the area of Como Street the vehicle came to a stop with the driver getting out of the vehicle and attempting to remove an infant from a child seat, the arrest report states.

The officer told the man to stop and place his hands behind his back. As the officer was attempting to place the man in the back seat of a patrol car, he began to resist and pushed his back against officers and refused to get into the patrol car. A second patrol officer assisted and was able to place the man in the back of the patrol car. Bail: $8,289.

— A 33-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 5:12 p.m. in the 49 block of Granite Way on suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the address after the suspect allegedly got to into an argument with her roommates and began pounding on a door until its hinges came off. The door hit the victim, and her 12-year-old son causing injury. The woman was found later at a residence and arrested for domestic battery. The woman said she didn’t touch anyone and that she only hit the door "about 20 times" until it broke. Bail: $3,137.

— A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 11:09 p.m. in the 2600 block of Lily Lane on a misdemeanor charge of being an intoxicated pedestrian. Bail: $72.

— A 35-year-old Carson City man, Christopher John Thomas, was arrested Saturday, 9:55 p.m. in the area of Fairview and Stanton Drive on felony suspicion of home invasion and three misdemeanors: domestic battery and two counts probation violation.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the area of Condor Circle for a report of a domestic battery. Upon arrival an officer spoke with the victim who said her boyfriend came to the door of her home and he was screaming mad. She said the man then kicked in the front door of the home and went upstairs to where she was. She said the man shoved her through the door of the hall closet and then again pushed her through the bedroom door. She said the man pushed her all the way across the bedroom over the children’s bed and into a wall on the far side of the room, the arrest report states.

A computer check showed Thomas is on Alternative Sentencing with “no alcohol” clauses on both cases he’s involved in. Thomas provided a preliminary breath sample of .013. Alternative Sentencing advised to arrest him on two counts of probation violation as well as the home invasion and domestic battery charge. Bail: $36,137.

— A 45-year-old Carson City woman, Pamela Denise Warner, was arrested Saturday, 11:50 p.m. in the area of Apollo Drive and Hiko on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, and five misdemeanor charges.

According to the arrest report, officers observed a man with warrants get into a vehicle near a casino with Warner being the driver. When a deputy activated his lights, the vehicle continued, drove to a dirt road, where the man jumped out of the car and fled. He was detained after attempting to climb a fence.

An officer then asked for the woman’s identification. She was unable to provide a valid license and proof of insurance. A K9 came up with a positive alert outside the vehicle. Inside the car, in the woman’s purse, was a meth pipe with a testable amount of meth.

Also found was a prescription bottle that contained less than an ounce of marijuana and the following pills: Three Alprazolam, 14 Tramadol, 14 Carisprodol, 1 Lorazepam, and 7 Zolpidem, the arrest report states. The pill bottle did not belong to the woman and the label on it was distorted, according to the report. Bail: $9,340. The man who fled officers faces charges of a warrant, failure to appear, issued out of Churchill County, Dec. 24, 2014 and obstruction. Bail: $912.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday, 2:31 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Carson Street during a traffic stop. She was found to have a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, failure to provided community service completion, issued Oct. 14, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500. A 40-year-old man was also arrested, He faces misdemeanor charges of violation of bail conditions, driving on a suspended registration and having no proof of insurance. Bail: $3,849.

— A 37-year-old Portola, Calif., man was arrested Saturday, 3:18 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Carson Street on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, being an intoxicated pedestrian and obstructing. The man had been causing problems in the valet area of a casino. He allegedly touched cars, pulled down his pants and flipped off the security camera, according to the arrest report. He was asked to leave several times and became confrontational with casino security. Bail: $1,726.

— 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 8 p.m. in the 900 block of South Carson Street on misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. The man allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face during an argument causing swelling and bruising on the right side of her face from her eye to her cheek, and a small laceration to her face.

According to the arrest report the couple had been arguing in a vehicle after leaving a bar. The suspect admitted he hit the woman in the face, describing it as a back hand in self defense, the arrest report states. He claimed the woman came at him first, swinging and kicking him. The suspect had a small scratch to the top of his head where he claimed his girlfriend attacked him. Bail: $3,137.

— An 81-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 3:05 a.m. in the area of Mountain and Bath Street on suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, officers stopped the vehicle the man was driving for failure to maintain its lane and almost striking a vehicle parked on Mountain Street.

The man told officers he had "a few" when asked how much he had to drink. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment, unable to perform the walk and turn and one leg stand. He provided a breath test with a result above the legal limit of .08. At jail he provided breath samples of .088 and .081. Bail: $1,137.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

With Nevada’s primary elections approaching, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) reminds community members that political signage is not allowed on state highway property.

Federal regulations and Nevada state law prohibit political and advertising signage on public highway property, including but not limited to political signs, yard sale/event signs, and realtor or business signage.

It is important to know that state road property often extends beyond the roadside, fence line, or sidewalk of interstates, freeways, highways, and urban state roads/streets.

The application deadline for Mile High Band Association’s 2024 Jazz & Beyond Festival art contest is Friday, May 31. Northern Nevada artists, including teachers and students are invited to apply, and participation is free.

Selected entries in the competition will be used to promote the festival, and the winning entry will be featured on the festival’s advertising poster and program cover. Festival T-shirts may also feature the winning design.

Nevada State Police has identified a Northern California man who died in a fatal crash last month on I-80 in Fernley.
