Wind Advisory in effect for Carson City region, snow in the Sierra
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect for much of the region, including the greater Reno, Carson City, Carson Valley and Washoe Valley areas until 10 p.m. tonight.
The weather service advises southwest winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Wind prone areas such as Washoe Valley and Galena could gust up to 75 mph.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Driving could be difficult, mainly for high profile vehicles along US-395 and I-580.
The weather service advises to secure loose outdoor items as winds could damage or blow these items away as well as to have flashlights with spare batteries, and/or candles in the event of a power outage.
For Lake Tahoe and the Sierra south into Mono County, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday evening. Snow accumulations of up to two inches, and up to 5 inches above 7,000 feet.; 6 to 12 inches expected along the Sierra crest, highest north of US-50. Winds gusting to around 100 mph for exposed ridges.
The weather service advises that travel in the Sierra will be difficult, with conditions to impact the evening commute. Strong winds could cause a few downed limbs and power lines. Dangerous boating conditions expected for Lake Tahoe with wave heights 2 to 5 feet.
