Storey County sheriff's deputy injured, suspect in custody following Virginia City shooting
UPDATE 9:36AM: A Storey County sheriff's deputy and another person were injured and a suspect was taken into custody after a shooting Saturday in Virginia City, according to Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro.
The incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Sheriff Antinoro said deputies responded to Virginia City Highlands for a a report of domestic battery. When deputies arrived, a male suspect, Charles Stutts, fired multiple rounds from a rifle striking a deputy and another person, Sheriff Antinoro told MyNews4.com.
Suspect Stutts, the deputy and the other individual were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Stutts was booked on attempted murder of a peace officer, attempted murder and domestic battery charges.

On Saturday, at around 4:30 p.m. Storey County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of domestic violence in the Virginia City Highlands.
Shortly after deputies arrived, the alleged perpetrator, Charles Stutts, 51, fired multiple rounds from a rifle striking a deputy and another individual who was at the scene.
The deputy was able to return fire causing Stutts to surrender. The deputy took Stutts into custody without further incident.
Stutts, the deputy and the other individuals who were all injured in the exchange were taken to area medical facilities where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Stutts was subsequently booked into Storey County Jail on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. Bail has not yet been set at the time of this news release.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Investigations Division, will take over the investigation at the request of the Storey County Sheriff since the SCSO deputy was involved. The names of the involved deputy and the other victim are being withheld pending further investigation. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave as a routine matter of process in an offer involved shooting incident.
