Only one DUI arrest reported on New Year's Eve in Carson City for the end of 2020
In a great way to start the New Year, only one DUI was reported by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office last night on New Year’s Eve in what is surely the lowest number in recent years.
The Sheriff’s Office did not hold DUI checkpoints but still had heavy police presence patrolling the capital city.
A 27-year-old man was arrested near the area of Sherman Ln and Panamint Rd early Friday morning for a second DUI and failure to maintain a lane after driving erratically in front of a sheriff's deputy.
According to the police report, deputies observed a white sedan turn onto Highway 50 from N. Edmonds drive, accelerating quickly and conducting a wide right turn, traveling across two lanes of travel into the left turn lane. The vehicle then abruptly changed lanes without using a turn signal and continued through the intersection of Highway 50 and Fairview Dr.
Deputies accelerated to catch up to the vehicle, which slowed down to 35 mph in a 55 mph zone. Deputies followed the vehicle, which was also unlicensed, for a quarter of a mile before initiating a traffic stop.
Deputies made contact with the driver and asked him if he had been drinking to which he replied, “I’ll be honest with you sir, yes I have.” Deputies asked if he had any registration for the vehicle and he said no.
The man agreed to participate in a field sobriety test, which resulted in multiple clues of impairment.
The man agreed to provide a PBT which resulted in a .189 percent blood alcohol level.
The man was arrested without issue and was booked for DUI second and failure to maintain a lane.
