Bethlehem Lutheran School Crowns Geography Bee Champion
Elia Keating-McEllistrem, an eighth grader, won the school-level competition of the National geography Bee on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Her win over Dylan Friend, who finished second, qualifies her for a chance at an eventual first place prize of a $50,000 scholarship.
Elia must now complete an State Bee Qualifying Examination and score well enough to move on to the State level of competition to be held on March 31, 2017 in Las Vegas. Elia competed against the top two finalist from each grade 4-8.
The national Geographic Society will provide an all-expense- paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the state champions and their teacher-escorts to participate in the National Geography Bee National championship on May 24 and 25.
