In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates that more than 1.7 million people spent a total of $638.9 million on gifts, decorations and other merchandise over the five-day period.

Nutcracker Ballet celebrates 30 years with Thanksgiving weekend Carson City performances

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24, 2018 at 7 p.m., and a matinee on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, Bob Boldrick Theater.

Reno-Tahoe Climate Marchers Happy to Have Raised Awareness for Paris Climate Action

Activists from organizations including the Sierra Club, Peoples Climate Movement, Avaaz and others took part in public Sunday strolls and rallies at two key venues, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and public sidewalks near Meadowood Mall, as part of global climate actions coordinated by 350.org.

Polar Express aboard V&T sells out for fifth season; other holiday train options available
Submitted by editor on Wed, 11/25/2015 - 11:23amThe Polar Express on the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad has sold out for the fifth consecutive year, with more than 15,000 passengers securing rides to the North Pole.
A wait list sign-up is available online here that could offer a last chance to ride the Polar Express in 2015. Tickets for next year’s holiday train go on sale in August 2016.

Heavenly, Northstar expand terrain for Thanksgiving holiday weekend

Heavenly will open Orion on Thursday, an intermediate run accessed off Dipper Express, boosting the open terrain to 2.3 skiable miles. During the holiday weekend, beginning on Thursday, Heavenly will open daily at 8:30 a.m. Heavenly will also provide the tubing hill as additional beginner terrain.

Tree permits at Lake Tahoe sell out; permits available at nearby Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 12/04/2013 - 5:37pmThere was a run on Christmas trees in the Lake Tahoe Basin over Thanksgiving weekend. The bad news is that all 2,500 permits were snagged and there won't be anymore issued between now and Christmas.
The good news is nearby Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, which has 5,000 permits this season, continues to sell them at a rapid clip, Forest Service officials said.

Polar Express holiday train aboard V&T Railroad sells-out third straight year

For the third year, The Polar Express train aboard the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad has sold out. More than 16,000 passengers secured tickets on the Christmas season-flavored, children's story-inspired holiday passenger train.
Even with the addition of 18 more trains representing 6,500 seats over last year’s 10,000-plus capacity, a 66 percent increase, the train’s popularity continues to grow, V&T officials note.

Mother Gigogne, a role which is traditionally played by a man, is an enormous woman who conceals a whole brood of children beneath her skirts.

Bella Voce performs on Sunday November 27th at 4pm at the Brewery Arts Center. Reno's premiere women's vocal ensemble will perform both classic and contemporary holiday music.
Bella Voce, which is Italian for beautiful voice, has been performing for more than 20 years. Known for excellent vocal technique and a beautiful sound, this ensemble has earned a unique place among performing vocal groups in northern Nevada.

Midget football Snow Bowl fundraiser

The team is currently trying to raise fund to be able to travel to compete at the higher levels. There will be a fundraiser Monday, November 22nd at the Dairy Queen on Highway 50 East in Carson from 6 pm-9pm. Also monetary donations can be made.
