The work of Las Vegas artist Robin Stark, a recipient of a 2014 Artist Fellowship Grant from the Nevada Arts Council, is featured in the exhibit at the College of Southern Nevada Artspace Gallery on the Cheyenne Campus. “Ceramic Reflections” is displayed Oct. 4 through Nov. 29, with an artist reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11.

Working in clay, Stark creates sculptural forms inspired by vessel shapes that transcend their functionality. Recipient of a Master of Fine Arts from Pennsylvania State University, State College, and a Bachelor of Arts from University of California, Davis, Stark currently teaches ceramic arts at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas.

Stark’s work has been feature in 15 solo exhibits and she was awarded the Nevada Arts Council’s Artist Fellowship in Visual Arts for 2014. She also received a Jackpot Grant Award from the Arts Council. Her collaborative community projects include the Whitney Ranch Tile Together Project, awarded project of the year by the City of Henderson, and the Cambridge Recreation Center Mural Project in Las Vegas. Ceramics Monthly featured two of Stark’s articles and her work has been recognized or reviewed in Las Vegas City Scenes and Las Vegas Weekly.

The Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, is the agency charged with ensuring that state and national funds support cultural activity and encourage participation in the arts throughout Nevada. In addition to providing hundreds of grants to arts and community-based organizations, schools, artists and local municipalities throughout the state, the Arts Council coordinates a variety of statewide programs and activities such as the annual Poetry Out Loud recitation competition for high-school aged students, traveling exhibits, artist residencies, workshops and cultural assessments. A brushfire that occurred in Dayton Friday evening is currently in the mop up phase.

The fire which was reported just south east of Highway 50 is estimated to have burned around two to three acres and no structures were in danger.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, a plane made an emergency landing on Highway 50 at Pradere in the Dayton area on Friday.

Over 100 volunteers showed up at Zephyr Shoals this morning for the annual post-July 4 cleanup. The increase in volunteers is due entirely to the horrors of last year’s cleanup during which volunteers and the League to Save Lake Tahoe cleaned up over 6,000 pounds of trash alone.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Thursday night to a small brush fire behind Meeks Lumber in north Carson City.

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a credit card skimmer device discovered Thursday at an East Carson City business.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Sheriff’s Night Out at Mills Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6. There will be aircrafts, helicopters, law enforcement vehicles, mounted horses, fire engines, giveaways, music, games and more.
