Carson City area musicians Invited to Friday's Tuneville at BAC ahead of documentary
Acoustic music fans are encouraged to attend the award-winning film in the performance hall at 7 p.m. In the heart-felt documentary, one busker turned filmmaker takes viewers inside the world of street musicians. Filmed over the course of three years, five talented artists bare all as they cope with "making it" in a society driven relentlessly by the allure of fame. While some dream of more, others are resigned to life as a street musician — and even embrace it.
The film features 90's rocker Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the U.S.A. and violin virtuoso Joshua Bell, in the hour and a half journey that makes viewers think twice about who they may be passing on the street. Tickets are available at the door or online here.
Before the show, Tuneville musicians will play commonly known folk music tunes, from Celtic and American traditions. This is a tune session with a pre-determined set list. (This is not a jam.)
Bring an acoustic instrument (there is no electricity for plugging in). If you need sheet music, bring your music stand. Limited copies of sheet music will be provided. Please download sheet music.
The sheet music includes guitar chords. Maracas and Irish Drums (bodhrans) are also invited to play. You don't need to know how to read music or play tunes to participate.
Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall is located at 449 W. King St. in Carson City.
Your session leaders are local performing and recording musicians Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance, also known as "Slim and Minnie" and Gairin Celtic Music. They will lead this Tuneville session on banjo, guitar and accordion. More can be found here.
