Paiute Pipeline scheduled maintenance through Friday in Carson City and Carson Valley
Crews from Paiute Pipeline Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Gas Corporation, and its contractors, will perform maintenance on its natural gas transmission pipeline in Carson City and Carson Valley this Tuesday through Friday.
The maintenance will involve a controlled release of nitrogen between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the intersection of US 395/Plymouth Drive in Carson Valley. Paiute Pipeline will be working on a section of natural gas pipeline in the area as part of normal, routine maintenance operations.
In addition, there will be numerous construction vehicles performing work associated with this scheduled maintenance activity at the intersection of East 5th Street/Fairview Drive in Carson City. No impact to traffic is anticipated.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office, Fire Department, 911 operators and county and city officials are being advised of the controlled release prior to the work beginning Tuesday.
Although natural gas will have been removed from the pipeline, people in the area may smell the odor of natural gas. The release of non-hazardous nitrogen from the pipeline will produce loud noises, similar to a jet engine, and will be heard in the general area of this intersection.
Although the procedure is designed to be safe, those nearby may find the smell or noise unpleasant and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Southwest Gas, the local distribution company, will be responding to all emergency calls. Anyone who suspects a natural gas leak in their area should always call 1-877-860-6020 and 911 from a safe location.
Paiute Pipeline owns and operates an interstate transmission pipeline system which extends from a point of interconnection with the facilities of Williams-Northwest Pipeline at the Idaho-Nevada border to the California-Nevada state line near the north and south ends of Lake Tahoe.
