Registration is open for the 27th Nevada Day Classic run and walk

October 29, 2016 - 8:00am Registration is open for the 27th Nevada Day Classic to Benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind that will be held Saturday, October 29.
Since 1989, the Nevada Day Classic has been an annual event presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers. This 8k run and 2 mile run/walk brings together hundreds of runners and walkers of all shapes, and sizes who hit the streets of the historic West Side of Carson City with Guide Dog Puppies-in-Training who serve as course marshals to cheer them on!
Families and groups can participate in the walk, enjoy the light breakfast following the race and even stay for the Nevada Day Parade that follows.
Each guide dog is given a unique name all its own. This year, honoring the entry of our State into the Union, Guide Dogs for the Blind is presenting a very lucky puppy raiser with a very special puppy--a puppy named Nevada! Participants will have the opportunity to meet Nevada and welcome her home!
Local volunteer puppy raisers take puppies provided by Guide Dogs for the Blind into their lives to love, train, and socialize until they are about 15-18 months old. Then they return the dog who is ready for formal training at Guide Dogs for the Blind. “Many people ask how we can stand to give our puppies up after we raise them. I tell them that it is difficult. We get attached to our puppies and we love them, but the most genuine and sincere ‘thank yous’ I have ever received have come from the men and women who have received my puppies as guide dogs,” says puppy raiser Kelsey Mammen who has raised 13 puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Guide Dogs for the Blind is one of the premiere guide dog training organizations in the world and provides individuals who are blind and visually impaired with specially-trained guide dogs completely free of charge.
All net proceeds from the Nevada Day Classic will be donated to Guide Dogs for the Blind, including the local puppy raising clubs.
