Carson City Library partners with JOIN, Inc. to offer 'Job Seeking With Google' workshops
Carson City Library announced Tuesday that it has been selected by the American Library Association and Public Library Association to receive funding to empower Carson City job seekers with digital skills using Grow With Google and a partnership with JOIN Inc.
The Carson City Library will offer a series of workshops — Job Seeking With Google — beginning in September. Participants will learn how to use Google Search, Sheets and Docs as career-finding tools, and discover secrets and tips for successful interviews and resumes. The workshops will be lead by JOIN Inc., and will incorporate Grow with Google and NV Career Explorer initiatives.
Workshop Series 1
Sept. 19, 6-7:45 p.m.: Job Seeking With Google Part I
Sept. 26, 6-7:45 p.m.: Job Seeking With Google Part II
Sept. 28, 2-3:30 p.m.: NV Career Explorer
Workshop Series 2
Oct. 3, 6-7:45 p.m.: Job Seeking With Google Part I
Oct. 10, 6-7:45 p.m.: Job Seeking With Google Part II
Oct. 12, 2-3:30 p.m.: NV Career Explorer
Workshop registration is available at carsoncitylibrary.org, and the only requirements are basic computer knowledge (how to use a mouse and keyboard) and a Gmail address. Anyone who does not have basic computer knowledge, but wants to attend a workshop can register for the Carson City Library's Mouse and Keyboard class offered Sept. 10 and Oct. 1.
Job Seeking With Google workshops are made possible through a grant from Libraries Lead with Digital Skills, an initiative of the American Library Association and the Public Library Association, and sponsored by Grow With Google. The series will also incorporate Nevada Career Explorer, a set of online tools for job seekers in the state, sponsored by the Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.
"We serve job seekers daily at the library, so we are excited to be able to offer these workshops to help them find a job more effectively," said Library Interim Director Diane Baker.
“At JOIN, our mission is to help break the cycle of poverty for all Nevadans, and learning how to use digital skills is a crucial step toward long-lasting and well-paying careers,” said Denise Castle, CEO of JOIN Inc.
Libraries Lead with Digital Skills was created so libraries can incorporate Grow with Google training materials and offer community workshops or other activities aimed at empowering small businesses and assisting job seekers to prepare for and find work.
