Trash Mob to Clean Up Carson River Saturday
You may consider Muscle Powered a hiking and biking organization, and you wouldn't be wrong. But Muscle Powered's motto is "Walk, Bike, Build," and it is the "Build" part of the motto that is sometimes overlooked. With the official opening of the Ash to Kings Trail last season, the building aspect of Muscle Powered's motto was highlighted.
But along with building comes maintaining. Volunteers from Muscle Powered often assist with maintaining the area's trails, cutting back encroaching brush, or building sustainable features into a trail in order to prevent erosion. And as a part of maintaining our multi-use trails and paths Muscle Powered is actively engaged in keeping them clean and safe for our community to use.
Last summer, Muscle Powered initiated a concentrated effort to that end. The Trash Mob is a play on the popular flash-mobs. The appeal of the Trash Mobs has been their short duration. Each Trash Mob is only an hour long, and they’re scheduled early enough in the morning so that they don’t interfere with the rest of your weekend schedule. Scheduling the Trash Mobs on the third Saturday of every month has also helped people know when they're coming up and make their plans accordingly.
While Trash Mobs are normally held on the third Saturday of the month, scheduling conflicts forced the Trash Mob to be moved to August 27th from 8-9am this month. The group will be meeting on the east side of the Carson River off of Sierra Vista Lane. Check the Muscle Powered web site for a Google Map that pinpoints the meeting location.
